Interior design can be tricky if you’re not creatively minded and when it comes to decorating the choices are endless! Wall colours, accessories and furniture are all big decisions and you need to make sure that each element of the room complements the others.
There are certain smaller things that are easily changeable if you change your mind but features such as your furniture and your carpet are big decisions that you really need to get right first time.
Choose Your Furniture First
The big dilemma is which should you choose first, your furniture or your carpet colour?
You should always choose your furniture first as it is usually much easier to find carpets to complement your furniture than the other way around. That said, if you have already chosen your carpets, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find suitable furniture to match.
Wooden Furniture: Light or Dark?
You will find that wooden furniture is the most difficult to match but that certainly doesn’t mean that you need to stay away from it.
If you choose very light wood then a darker or deeper tone of carpet will make it stand out. You can also choose patterns with lighter furniture.
If you choose a dark wooden colour then steer clear of patterned or dark carpets, it will make your room seem smaller and overcrowded. Light, neutral colours are the best option.
